I guess it's different in less hostile surroundings, you fu#k up outside of the military, and your boss shrugs it off, or you get fired, etc… but within a rules based hierarchy like the service, forget it, you get torn to pieces, mostly because the next higher up has to account for the lapse. I never joined up, I wanted to, but my father talked me out of it. My cousin was a hero chopper pilot in Vietnam, shot down multiple times, and my uncle served on a US Naval ship.
